As the founder of Keena Communications, Kate Keena established the firm in 1994 providing a broad scope of innovative and strategic communications for the public, private and not-for-profit sectors.  With over 30 years of professional experience, Kate’s emphasis is in community and government relations and advocacy. A number of successful public relations communications, advocacy and outreach programs have been developed and implemented under Kate’s direction.  Partnering with her sister, Barbara in 2001, Keena Communications became Keena•Thomas Communications and added to an already existing client base.

Kate has an extensive background that includes tenure with the South Orange County Chambers of Commerce.  She serves on several boards of directors that include the California Women’s Leadership Association (founder and former two-term president), founding president of The Marian Bergeson Series of Excellence in Public Service Series, and OC Tax director.  Kate is the recipient of the 71st Assembly District Woman of the Year and the Mission Hospital’s Vision award.

As a managing partner of Keena•Thomas Communications, Barbara J. Thomas joined the firm in 2001.  Bringing over 20 years of experience, Barbara not only oversees the firm’s diverse client base but also brings a broad-based background that lends itself to attracting new clients.

Barbara’s 10 years as the Chief Executive Officer of the South Orange County Regional Chambers of Commerce has given her the breadth and depth to comprehensively understand strategic communications and the legislative arena.  Her increasingly responsible professional experience with an emphasis in community relations, education and outreach, leadership development, legislative advocacy, corporate communications, organizational change and fiscal management within the not-for-profit and private sectors, provides what it takes to complement and lead the Keena•Thomas team.
